Dusty Blackwood

“There is nothing better than jumping big jumps – it is an unbelievable feeling.”

Dusty Blackwood was born in Carthage, Missouri and began riding and competing when she was five.  Early in what was to become her career as a trainer, Dusty was self taught on the neighboring Shetland pony mares. Her early forays into the hunter divisions came when Dusty was in high school in Huntington Beach, California and led her to turning professional at the age of 21.

Dusty’s early professional career began with Sally Collins in Portland, Oregon.  Their very successful business focused on Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation. From there, Dusty went on to work as an Assistant Trainer for Bradley Leone and then Acres Wild.   After a very successful time with “Acres”, Dusty returned to Sacramento and has called it home for 14 years.

Dusty’s training business, Full Circle Farm, serves elite Hunter and Jumper riders.  The business started in Napa, CA and now calls the Sonoma Horse Park in Petaluma, CA home.  Dusty has trained many successful riders, including Jamie Schmidt, the youngest rider to win the Norcal Medal Finals.  Under Dusty’s tutelage, Jamie later went on to win the Gold Medal at the North American Young Rider competition in Chicago, Illinois.

Dusty’s dedication, attention to detail and superior care for both her riders and equines ensure that only the highest quality horses are offered at Full Circle Farm.  Dusty manages her business in order to ensure everything is done to her high standards.

As a rider, Dusty has competed in all levels of the Hunters and Jumpers at such renowned shows as Spruce Meadows, Devon, Washington, and Harrisburg and currently competes in the Grand Prix divisions.  Dusty has a degree in Photography and a Minor in Psychology from the University of Southern California.
